This course is an integral part of the common Learn&Lead strategy of continuing professional development of language teachers and trainers (the PROLANTCAP Trainer Development Framework) within the Slovak Association of Language Schools. The complete Learn&Lead program consists of the following:

A foundation course

1st course    The Learner-Centred Approach, 30 lessons

Two specific courses

2nd course   The Essentials of Communication, 24 lessons

3rd course   The Essentials of Leadership, 24 lessons

Main aim:
  • To maintain and up-date teachers´and trainers´professional competencies and skills. The main focus is on the development of their pedagogical and psychological thinking rooted in the principles of learner-centred approach. Based on the knowledge, they will develop their creativity, flexibility, empathy, and teaching skills needed for more effective developing learners’ communicative competence.
Specific aims:
  • develop the understanding of language learning mechanisms and their practical application
  • improve the knowledge of the developmental differences of learners relevant for foreign language learning
  • deepen the understanding of learners´ individual differences and the possibility of respecting them in languages teaching
  • enhance trainers´ empathy enabling them to better understand learners´ emotions, thoughts, needs, and behaviours, and adjust the teaching process accordingly
  • develop skills to teach foreign languages in meaningful and relevant situations
Content:
  1. Needs analysis: Discussion on the participants´ problems related to the effectiveness in foreign languages teaching.
  2. Learner- centred Approach: Development, general characteristics, application in our country and abroad, basic principles.
  3. Learner developmental differences – implication for foreign languages teaching.
  4. Individual differences in learning foreign languages: Respecting individual differences, aptitude, Gardner´s intelligences, learning styles and strategies, brain, affective states and personality.
  5. Classroom problem – analysis: Case studies, solving problems raised by participants.
